There’s a Christian song the students like to sing titled “Let the Waters Rise” by Mikeschair. Well, here’s an example of just that happening. The waters rose a lot, really fast, last week. I have been home for almost 2 months and the dreaded day has come for me to finally end this blog and admit that my time at Legacy is done. I am so very grateful for my time spent in Thailand, fully immersed in the culture, completely involved with my fellow volunteers, my students and the Sextons. We created a family unit in 10 months that completely changed my life, perspective and my heart.
It is harvest time at Legacy school in Chiang Mai. The rice is ripe and ready. Professor Ong-Art, who runs an organic farm near our rice fields told us we need to harvest NOW because our rice is so heavy it will begin to break the stalks!
Remember the didactic anecdote about the frog in hot water? The idea is that, if you place a frog in boiling water, it will immediately jump out. But if you put the frog in cold water and slowly raise the temperature, the cold blooded frog will gradually adjust to the temperature until it eventually boils to death.
