Buddhist Family Interested in Christianity

All related to the same family

Hello beloved brethren,

We are updating you on a situation in Burma where it seems God may be calling an entire Buddhist family.  It is quite exciting.

The above picture were the guests from the last Sabbath in November 2025.  This was the second time they came.  They are a Burmese family.

The man is 33 years old. His wife is behind the boy with the yellow T-shirt who is their son.  The lady next to him is his older brother’s wife holding the baby girl.  His wife experienced shaking and crying, like demonic behavior. This had mostly happened at night.  She would see a group of people in white dresses calling her.  She believed they were her friends from a past life.  Buddhists believe in this tradition.

This Buddhist family explained that there was one shaman who can speak with spirits.  That shaman helps to heal the sick with natural herbal medicine and gave them a Bible.  This shaman also said to them something like: “I can’t heal the disease, but this book (the Bible) can heal your disease.

They became interested in the Bible and started to read the Bible.  Then they wanted to be Christian and wanted to worship.  But no one came to visit at their home place.

There was one Lisu hilltribe woman that came to our Jawk Taing Church of God compound where our pastor Seng Aung and his wife Seng Pan oversee our church members.  This Lisu woman asked for medical help.  So, Seng Pan gave her 30,000 Kyats ($14.30+/-).  After that the Lisu woman told this Burmese Buddhist family about our church compound.

Seng Pan tells more of the story:

During this time, they called a shaman who could communicate with spirits. He commanded the demon to leave, but it didn’t work.  Later, he used the Bible, and the woman became quiet—she stopped crying and shouting. After a few days, the woman experienced the demon again. They tried many ways to heal her, but nothing worked.

They went back to the shaman who had used the Bible, and she got better. At that time, the husband of the woman realized the Bible had some power that the demon was afraid of the Bible. So, he asked for a Bible to keep for his wife.  He put the Bible in a bag and hung it around her neck at all times.

However, they still worshiped Buddha. The woman was fine for a few days, but the issues kept coming back.

Finally, the couple, decided to remove the Buddhist items from their house, and they did!  After that, his wife felt much better, and the problem never happened again!!!

The husband became interested in the Bible and started reading it. His brother learned about Christianity before him and was reading the Bible.  Then they read more Bible and began to keep the Sabbath their own way. The SDA group wanted to visit their home, but that did not work out.  When the Lisu woman spoke about our church, they became very interested and wanted to come.

The Lisu woman had a wound on her lips for almost six years. When she came to us for help with medical costs, her lips were healed from that moment on. She believes that by coming to our church, her lips were healed. Everyone knew about her lip wound.

When the Lisu woman shared this, the Buddhist family were all moved and excited to come to our church compound.  They walked for two hours the first time they came.

Seng Pan gave them all the 21 booklets Ah Jar (Seng Aung’s sister) translated from Aj. Leon in the 2nd, or 3rd week and the Buddhists discussed a little about their story.

The fourth week, the husband’s older brother also came.

Front left is the older brother with his younger brother (center) for Sabbath services.

They mentioned that they watch sermon videos online—but not from Seng Aung. The videos are from another church. In those videos, they didn’t talk about any specific church, only about Jesus. They heard that Jesus is not only for Christians, but for all people!

Seng Pan said:

Last week, they came on 2 motorbikes; and we talked.  I can see that God is calling them. When we talked, I could read his face. He said, “We don’t understand baptism or Christianity, but we believe Jesus is alive and has power.”

We hope and pray for them.

Finally in our last communication we heard that the Burmese family, who threw away all their Buddhist idols, are still coming.

And, YES, the demon problem is all gone!  Some of them walked  because they did not all fit on 2 motorcycles.  Pastor Seng Aung gives them gas when they come with motorcycles.

Come to find out after Seng Aung visited their home, they learned that they also know Stelle Shwe (our member here in Chiang Mai).  The Burmese family has a farm where Stelle’s father Jo Htoo and family lived when they were all young and before they moved to the Thailand refugee camp.

Please pray for this family and if it is God’s calling that this family will be blessed by the Truth in God’s Word that they are now reading.

Thank you, dear brethren, for those who have been CONTINUALLY praying for us, sending encouraging notes and supporting us financially.  God so will when time permits, I will try to put together a letter to those who have no computer.  We are all getting older with more on our plates—but we NEVER QUIT WITH THE HELP OF GOD ALMIGHTY!

God continue to BLESS all of you in everything as we see this world around us is not God’s world—but we must live in it with God’s Holy Spirit guiding us all every which way!

In Christian love and prayers for all of you!

Leon and Gloria
