Photo: Legacy Institute<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><strong>King Bhumibol Adulyadej, age 88, died today at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok. <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The king has been in the hospital off and on for over 10 years fighting sometimes serious illnesses.\u00a0 He was currently hospitalized for an operation to widen his heart arteries.\u00a0 He was not able to recover.<\/p>\n<p>King Bhumibol has reigned for over 70 years and was the longest reigning monarch in the world until his death.\u00a0 It is difficult to imagine Thailand without King Bhumibol.<\/p>\n<p>The Thai nation is in deep mourning for their beloved king.\u00a0 As soon as his death was announced, the thousands surrounding the hospital to pray for him burst into tears and wails.\u00a0 He will be sorely missed.<\/p>\n<p>I have had the honor of meeting the king on numerous occasions and have actually traveled with him during some of his visits to poor rural villages to inspect projects he initiated to raise the quality of life of his subjects.\u00a0 He was a brilliant man, \u00a0I would say a kind of Renaissance Man who was born in the United States and trained in engineering in Switzerland.\u00a0 He invented several clever inventions, including a patented method of seeding clouds to produce rain.\u00a0 He was a philosopher who lectured at length on what he called, \u201cSufficiency Economics\u201d, \u00a0basically a philosophy of living that one should provide enough for one\u2019s own needs and the family\u2019s needs, and then give to others who were needy.\u00a0 It is philosophy based on GIVE and not GREED.\u00a0 He was also a painter and accomplished Jazz clarinet player who wrote some very noteworthy songs.\u00a0 Throughout his career as king, he visited every province in his kingdom, accompanied by his wife, Queen Sirikit, and other members of his family.\u00a0 He single-handedly halted opium production in Thailand by teaching the hill tribes that they could make more money growing fruits and vegetables instead of opium.\u00a0 One could write a book about his many accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p>I have been asked who will now reign.\u00a0 The answer is that Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, the king&#8217;s 63-year-old son, is heir apparent.<\/p>\n<p>Please pray for the royal family during this time of transition.\u00a0 It will be difficult for Thailand. \u00a0I know your prayers will be much appreciated by the royal household and our many Thai friends.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/tlsig.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2376\" src=\"http:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/tlsig.jpg\" alt=\"tlsig\" width=\"124\" height=\"80\" srcset=\"https:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/tlsig.jpg 474w, https:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/tlsig-300x193.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 124px) 100vw, 124px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nT.\u00a0 Leon Sexton<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>King Bhumibol Adulyadej, age 88, died today at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok.
