{"id":1657,"date":"2014-01-22T09:08:53","date_gmt":"2014-01-22T14:08:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/?p=1657"},"modified":"2014-01-22T11:17:15","modified_gmt":"2014-01-22T16:17:15","slug":"legacys-7th-graduation-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/2014\/01\/legacys-7th-graduation-ceremony\/","title":{"rendered":"Legacy&#8217;s 7th Graduation Ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"_mcePaste\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_1658\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1658\" style=\"width: 576px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00876.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1658  \" title=\"Legacy Institute Graduates 2014\" src=\"http:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00876.jpg\" alt=\"Legacy Institute Graduates 2014\" width=\"576\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"http:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00876.jpg 640w, http:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00876-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1658\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Legacy Foundation President Leon Sexton stands with graduates (from l., June Seng Pan, Kart Ta Yin, Atsadakorn Chala, Bancha Sonsailom, Gum Seng Aung).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Legacy Institute (we are known as Legacy Foundation in Thailand) held our 7th graduation commencement exercise on January 12 at the Empress Hotel in Chiang Mai, Thailand. \u00a0We had five graduates; Seng Aung, June Seng Pan, Kart Ta Yin, Atsadakon and Bancha. \u00a0Seng Aung and June Seng Pan are a married couple from Kachinland. \u00a0Atsadakon is a Lahu from Thailand and Kart Ta Yin and Bancha are from the Karen tribe in Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>It is always rewarding when we see the fruits of our labors graduating the three year program from the Legacy Foundation Leadership Training Center, and embarking on a new chapter in each of their lives. \u00a0It is also very encouraging to hear the graduating students give speeches in English. \u00a0Some who come to Legacy can speak no English at all. \u00a0Some can speak a little English. \u00a0But all have a good command of the English language when they leave. \u00a0They also learn Bible, Typing and Computer, Public Speaking, Journalism, Music and Chorale, Health and Hygiene and Organic Gardening.<\/p>\n<p>At Legacy we have a rigid program of work and study. \u00a0Every student is expected to pull their own weight and exercise teamwork. \u00a0Everyone must chip in and keep the facilities clean, cook the food, and grow vegetables for the school. \u00a0All are taught leadership principles such as responsibility, accountability and other character traits that will pay off all of their lives.<\/p>\n<p>Jaju will return to his home and help his father on the farm. \u00a0Bancha already has a job as a tourguide. \u00a0Katrin wants to continue her education. \u00a0Seng Aung and June Seng Pan have already returned to Myanmar to preach the Gospel and care for Church of God members there.<\/p>\n<p>Our graduation program consisted of speeches, several numbers performed by the Legacy Chorale and other music. \u00a0Gloria and I presented diplomas to the graduates and gave special achievement awards. \u00a0June Seng Pan received both the Academic Excellence Award and what we call the Spirit of Excellence award. \u00a0Hser Nay Paw was also awarded a Spirit of Excellence Award for demonstrating the highest ideals of the Legacy educational program. \u00a0Hser Nay Say received an award for being the most academically improved over the previous academic year at Legacy.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of Legacy is to teach them the way to happiness through a personal spiritual relationship with God and His Son Jesus Christ. \u00a0We also teach them skills so that they can earn a living and be self-sufficient. \u00a0It is heart-warming to see these young people successfully pass Legacy\u2019s 3 year program and move on in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>It is also rewarding for our volunteer teachers from the United States, Canada and England to see the hard work, sweat and even sometimes tears, pay off in the beaming faces of the young men and women who are graduating. \u00a0It makes the sacrifice worthwhile.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1517\" title=\"tlsig\" src=\"http:\/\/legacyinstitute.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/tlsig.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"136\" height=\"88\" \/><br \/>\nLeon Sexton<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Legacy Institute (we are known as Legacy Foundation in Thailand) held our 7th graduation commencement exercise on January 12 at the Empress Hotel in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
