This was an eventful week at Legacy. We have a Burmese family\u00a0attending classes here (4 girls and 2 boys). I have one of the\u00a0boys in my second year English class, but all of his siblings are\u00a0first year students.<\/div>\n
Meet our Burmese\/Karen Family:<\/div>\n

Nomya\u2019s sister lives nearby in Chiang Mai city. This past weekend\u00a0Nomya\u2019s sister (the students\u2019 aunt) got married and all of Legacy\u00a0was invited to the wedding.<\/div>\n
We (15 of us all together) piled into a local sung tao and headed\u00a0into Chiang Mai. It was a traditional Karen wedding \u2013 which means\u00a0we were asked to wear our traditional Karen clothing! Abby and I\u00a0had a so much fun dressing up.<\/div>\n
The wedding ceremony was beautiful \u2013 they had several groups that\u00a0sang songs dedicated to the couple\u2026 including us!! The \u2018Legacy\u00a0Choir\u2019 sang two songs dedicated to the couple. We sang \u2018When You\u00a0Say Nothing At All\u2019 and a Burmese love song.<\/div>\n

It was a fun and relaxing day \u2013 which was just what we all needed\u00a0at the time. The night leading up to the wedding was stressful. It\u00a0was simultaneously the best and worst night since Iv’e arrived in\u00a0Thailand.<\/div>\n
THE WORST:<\/div>\n
Stle Lin Shwe and his brother, Htoo Mya Shwe had gone to Chiang\u00a0Mai to help their family set up for the wedding. They were coming\u00a0back on two motorbikes around 8:30pm when Stle Lin Shwe\u2019s bike was\u00a0hit by a car. The driver with Stle Lin Shwe riding on the back was\u00a0taking a right turn. In Thailand, that means you have to cross\u00a0traffic (they drive on the left side of the road). The driver hit\u00a0their back tire and the bike catapulted into the air, throwing the\u00a0driver and Stle Lin Shwe off. Stle Lin Shwe landed with his head<\/div>\n
down, his neck taking all the impact of the fall.<\/div>\n

THE BEST:<\/div>\n
God used this as an opportunity to show that He is a powerful God\u00a0who is full of mercy.<\/div>\n
When Stle Lin Shwe arrived at the school he seemed ok. He was\u00a0limping a bit and as I bent down to check out his limp I realized\u00a0that he didn\u2019t have any shoes. Where were they? He began to tell\u00a0the story of the motorbike accident. He had been wearing thick\u00a0rubber sandals \u2013 they usually last for 3-4 years of every day use. This is a similar style:<\/div>\n

His shoes had been left at the scene of the accident because they\u00a0had been sliced in half lengthwise. They had been sliced through\u00a0the top and bottom of the shoe \u2013 it was completely separated in\u00a0half! I looked down at Stle Lin Shwe\u2019s foot. There was not even a\u00a0scratch on it.<\/div>\n
His jeans were a similar story. One leg of his jeans was\u00a0completely missing. It had been torn to shreds in the accident. Again, his leg was bruised but there was no permanent damage done. No major cuts or gashes, no breaks or fractures.<\/div>\n

Then the two brothers began to describe the accident in more\u00a0detail. They had, thankfully been wearing helmets. That is, in\u00a0itself, a miracle. The culture here is definitely not to be worried about motorbike safety. Mothers with children, babies\u00a0even, ride motorbikes with no extra protection. That morning,\u00a0another student (Seng Aung) had had a really \u2018bad\u2019 feeling about\u00a0their trip. Seng Aung actually kept the brothers from leaving\u00a0campus until they agreed to put on a helmet. Otherwise, they would\u00a0have been completely unprotected.<\/div>\n
Stle Lin Shwe, riding with another relative, had been hit while\u00a0making a right turn (crossing traffic) at a fairly busy\u00a0intersection. The motorbike flew into the air and all three; the\u00a0motorbike, the driver and Stle Lin Shwe, landed ACROSS two lanes\u00a0of traffic on the dirt shoulder opposite of where the accident\u00a0occurred. They were out of the way of traffic and nobody else was<\/div>\n
hurt. Htoo Mya Shwe told me that he\u2019d never in his life seen a\u00a0motorbike fly that way, or travel so far.<\/div>\n
Stle Lin Shwe, who landed on his head told me, \u201cVery funny Ajan. I\u00a0landed and the ground \u2013 not hard. Soft. Soft ground. Very funny\u201d.<\/div>\n
Now, roughly a week later Stle Lin Shwe is doing well. There is a\u00a0lot of muscle soreness and he will be visiting a chiropractor to\u00a0ensure that there is no permanent damage. Currently several people\u00a0have examined him and confirmed that there were really no serious\u00a0injuries from the accident.<\/div>\n
His whole story shows over and over again that our God is so\u00a0merciful and is protecting us even before we know we need help.<\/div>\n
After this experience, the students have had great attitudes.\u00a0There is a spirit of unity, gratitude and fun on campus. I think\u00a0we have all learned more fully how God can turn even the most\u00a0awful experiences into an opportunity to glorify Him.<\/div>\n
